The Challenge Ahead
To achieve global climate objectives, environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors need to be better understood and integrated into investment decisions. Currently, there is a lack of knowledge and robust methodologies for quantifying these factors and their impacts.
The GAIIA initiative aims to explore these challenges through rigorous applied research, in order to contribute to the advancement of knowledge at the intersection of finance, sustainability and artificial intelligence.
Our Solution
Our research program has two complementary focuses. On the one hand, we are developing advanced methods for quantifying the ESG impacts of companies by exploiting heterogeneous and unstructured data using artificial intelligence.
Secondly, we are developing new methodologies for assessing ESG risks, understanding their impact on financial markets and integrating them into portfolio management.
Our Approach
The GAIIA initiative favours a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach based on real issues.
We promote regular exchanges with industry experts, applying strict ESG standards to ensure that our research is relevant to the real obstacles facing the sector.
Our program brings together the expertise of researchers from five universities (Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, Concordia University, UQAM) and two colleges/CCTTs (Collège de Maisonneuve, CCTT JACOBB), fostering a robust interdisciplinary approach.
